[Family Genealogy by Ruth Elaine Dixon - Watson when in her late 80's]

Ruth and Gilbert were engaged to be married December 1926. Gilbert lived and boarded at his Aunt Nellie Hickman - George and Helen.
June 18, 1927 we were married in Riverside California by Rev Waite at Church Manse. No honeymoon. Some fellow workers were trying to find out where he lived so they could come serenade him and his new wife. Next day they went to his folks and sister to announce his marriage. They already knew. Saw license in Riverside paper.
1st apartment - 406 East I( as in eye) street, Ontario, California
Gilbert and Ruth bought 1 acre - 331 West Ely, Ontario to build home, war came along and building material restricted, so we remodeled garage into living quarters and travel trailer. This was 1940 - we did add el shape home, 2 bedrooms north living and large bedroom west and walk in closet. Garage made into dining room and large kitchen, bathroom and added a service porch and a big pantry - dug cesspool, landscaped yard, block wall, lots of roses, lawn with small hedge, built garage, planted
orchard, had wonderful gardens. Walnut trees around west and north of acre. Had basketball and volley ball court, children liked it here. Gilbert and Leonard had bb guns to shoot birds.
1952 Gil & Ruth bought a new maroon color Hudson Convertible. Made reservations at Niagara Falls Honeymoon suite for their silver anniversary. Went up Utah, Nevada, Montana to Lake Louise, back across to 5 to Detroit, crossed into Canada to Niagara Falls to reserved motel. Rode up Maid of Mist with our complete rain gear on that they issued quite a trip into Horse Shoe Falls. That night we crossed Rainbow Bridge into Canada to view lights displayed on Niagara Falls and Canadian Horse Shoe Falls. Visiting various places, shopping, museum of various tubs people had tried to conquer the falls and failed. Returning we stopped at Columbus Ohio. Bob Whites singing, next day on to St. Louis Mo. next day onto Springfield - Gil's birth state, onto Iowa to my birth state and homes I had lived and visited my Aunt Myrtle and Grandma who was bed ridden 4 years- hip injury. On back to California and family.

Gilbert worked for General Electric from 1926 to 1968 42 years. Retired at Art Linkletter's Mobile Park in Hemet California. bought a lot, put a mobile home on lot and added bedroom and front room, fireplace and other side 18 ft dining room and bedroom. Gil was a good gardener. Tree roses each side to street. Lived here 18 years, bought a coachman motor home planning to travel. Gilbert took ill with Parkinsons. 1977 was Golden Anniversary. Betty, Len and Shirley gave us a nice dinner and gift. 1985 Gil was bed ridden 5 months, died March 17, 1985. Entombment Mausoleum, Ontario California.
