Rachel had several hip fractures. Last time she fell down basement stairs. For 3 days she laid in a bed in Deaconess Hospital, third day Dr's decided she would live, so nurses put masks on, cleaned blood matted out of hair, head and face cuts. Put her in ambulance sent her 90 miles to another hospital for plate to be put in hip. They brought her back to Myrtles home. No therapy was available. She was bed ridden 4 years. Buried by husband William Tapps.

Myrtle took care of her mother Rachel for 4 years, Rachel was bedridden (see Rachel for more info)
February 8, 1981 Myrtle was found on floor, taken by ambulance to State Center Iowa hospital where she died, 93 years old.

For 5 years they lived on and farm south of Conrad Iowa. In 1917 they bought a farm and home south of Marshalltown Iowa, a farmer for 11 years here. In 1928 they moved from farm to Marshalltown Iowa. Bought a home at 216 N. 3rd Ave. Art from 1928 to 1956 was a city fireman in a horse driven wagon, a cemetery worker and retired from Lennox Furnace Factory.

Sarah was an arthritic and crippled in a wheelchair. When she died the mortician had to break her knees to close the casket lid.

His two sons from second marriage are living in Canada as of 1999 when I made contact with them. They sent me a few photos of Grandpa.

I know that Grandpa worked for the phone company and helped with the Trans-Atlantic phone installation in Canada. I am not sure why they left England and went to Canada.
