David Ernest Rychel, a dentist, died Wednesday at his home in Livermore. He was 51. The native of Battle Creek, Michigan, graduated from St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland and from University of San Francisco in 1968. He taught history for two years. He graduated from UC-San Francisco Dental School in 1982 and served his residency at UCLA. He bought a practice in 1986. He enjoyed volleyball, wind surfing, camping, woodworking, music and archeology. He coached his son's team in the Livermore Valley Soccer Club. He was a member of Valley Tennis Club, Sierra Club, South Alameda County Dental Association, USSF Dental Alumni Association and Academy of General Dentistry. He helped place and sponsor foreign exchange students.
Survivors include Kathy Cox Rychel, his wife of 12 years; daughter, Kerry Rychel; son, Kevin Rychel; and sister, Mora Lumia, all of Livermore; and brothers, Pat Rychel of Newport Beach.
Services 1p.m. December 27, at Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Avenue, Livermore.
