Masons To Conduct Services: Spanish War Veterans Will Sound Taps
Funeral services for Harry W. Bush, who died Saturday evening, will be
held from Truesdale's chapel at 4:00 Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. James
Horton Bishop of St. Luke's church will read the Episcopalian service,
after which Anchor lodge No. 87, F. & A. M. will conduct a brief service
according to the Masonic ritual. He will be laid to rest in Mountain Home
cemetery alongside the grave of his wife, who died five years ago. The
United Spanish War Veterans will sound taps over the grave. Employees of
The Gazette, with whom Mr. Bush worked and was associated over a long
period of years, will attend the last rites in a body, and there will
also be a representation from the Advertising Club of Kalamazoo, of which
the veteran newspaperman was a member for many years.
The passing of Harry Bush brought to a close on of Michigan's longest and
most active newspaper careers. He entered upon newspaper work when a mere
lad of 15, and it claimed his attention until the end, with the exception
of the time that he spent as first lieutenant in the 35th Michigan
volunteers, during the Spanish - American war, and one term that he
served as city clerk in Kalamazoo. Practically all of his life was spent
in Kalamazoo. At one time, however, he went to Dowagiac for a few years
as editor of the Daily News of that city, He returned to Kalamazoo in
1913 to take a place on the editorial staff of The Gazette, and remained
with this newspaper until the spring of 1924 when because of ill health
he resigned and took up special news correspondence work. He continued
active in this line until about two weeks ago, when serious illness made
it necessary for him to have hospital attention. He was 65.
